National Seminar on “Accelerating growth and empowering citizens: perspectives on 7th Five Year Plan” jointly organized by North South University and Planning Division, Government of Bangladesh.
A national seminar in partnership with the Planning Division, Government of Bangladesh on “Accelerating growth and empowering citizens: perspectives on 7th Five Year Plan” was held at NSU on 29th October 2016. The seminar was organized as a regular academic discourse of Public Policy and Governance program of NSU and in continuation to its earlier national seminars, workshops, policy colloquium on gender and development, industrial policy and women development policy. The 7th Five Year Plan (2016-20) serves as the main planning document of the country providing the road map for growth and development. From academic perspective bringing an insight on the planning document is not only relevant for the students of PPG but also critical to the understanding to appreciate the development challenges. The seminar was chaired by Professor Dr. Atiqul Islam, respected Vice Chancellor of NSU. Professor Dr. Shamsul Alam, Senior Secretary and Member, General Economics Division, Planning Commission and respected Chair of NSU Board of Trustees Mr. Azim Uddin Ahmed graced the occasion as special guests. Mr. Tariq-Ul Islam, Secretary, Planning Division graced the event with his kind presence. The inaugural function began with the welcome speech by Professor Sk. Tawfique M. Haque, Director, PPG Program.
The business session was planned with four presentations from designated officials of the Planning Commission and two designated discussants and moderated by Professor Salahuddin M. Aminuzzaman, Adviser of the PPG program. The title of the papers were: i) Experiences and Institutional Learning of implementation of the 6th Five Year Plan by Mr. Munirul Islam, Deputy Chief, GED, Planning Commission; ii) Genesis and major features of the 7th Five Year Plan by Syed Ali Bin Hassan, Assistant Chief, GED, Planning Commission; iii) Challenges, constraints and strategies towards accelerating growth and empowering citizens by Professor Dr. Shamsul Alam, Member, GED, Planning Commission and Senior Secretary, Government of Bangladesh; and iv) Looking beyond: Highlighting SDG and Delta Plan 2020-40 by Dr. Md. Taibur Rahman, Deputy Chief, GED, Planning Commission.
Distinguished guest Mr. Ziaul Islam, Member, Planning Commission who was present in the seminar spoke and actively contributed to the seminar. Respected Treasurer of NSU,Prof. Dr. Gour Gobinda Goswami and Professor M. Ismail Hossain, Chairman, Department of Economics of NSU made an eloquent speech and brought deep insights to the seminar as discussants of the papers. The seminar was actively participated by respected Deans, faculty members of different Departments, invited guests, officials and students of NSU.
